We recently shared a 3D image of a tiny home we designed, which sparked some curiosity about its size and features. This blog post delves into those details and provides a comprehensive design overview.
Here’s the scoop: This cozy abode measures 12 feet wide by 36 feet long, giving you 432 square feet of indoor living space. The deck, stretching 8 feet deep and running 32 feet along the house, adds another 256 square feet. Altogether, you’ve got a delightful 688 square feet of combined indoor and outdoor space to enjoy!
A Winter Retreat for Snowbirds
This tiny home was crafted for a client who spends winters in Florida to escape the cold weather. Typically, it accommodates one or two people, with room for occasional short-term guests. Given its seasonal use, the client was particularly concerned about security.

The Perfect Spot
This home was initially designed for a rented lot in a mobile home park in Pinellas County, FL, though the client planned to move it to a nearby property later on. The parking area is on the south side, with the house on the lot’s north side. A unique feature is the deck, which can fold up against the house when not in use, providing security by covering the large glass doors. The deck is divided into two parts, allowing access to the door even when the larger section is folded up.
Embracing the Sunshine
Since the house is used mainly during Florida’s mild winter months, we didn’t prioritize shade in the design. The deck basks in full sunlight, without any shade from the house or neighboring structures. We took advantage of this by incorporating large glass doors with clerestory windows above, allowing sunlight to flood the home. Smaller windows on the opposite side bring in north light, and the vaulted ceiling accommodates additional clerestory windows.

Versatile Living Spaces
The house features a separate bedroom, with extra beds for guests. A loft above the kitchen is accessed via a ladder next to the island, and there’s a Murphy bed in the living room closet. The bedroom also has a Murphy bed that can fold up, transforming the room into a home office or additional entertainment space during parties.
Compact and Functional Bathroom
The bathroom is designed as a wet room, compact yet functional. It includes a toilet on the back wall, a three-foot-wide vanity on the inside wall, and the space between these fixtures serves as the shower area.
Spacious Kitchen
The kitchen is generously sized for a tiny home, equipped with full-sized fixtures. The workspace is extendable with an island and ample countertop space along the wall. A window over the sink brings in natural light.
Ample Storage
Storage is plentiful, with closets and cabinets lining almost three full sides of the house.

Warm and Natural Interiors
We avoided using drywall, opting instead for warm, natural wood planking on the ceilings and floors. This wood also covers the end walls with Murphy beds. The remaining interior walls are clad in painted white horizontal boards. The exterior features vertical cedar wood boards, complemented by metal window and door frames, loft ladder, and cabinet pulls in a dark gray finish.
Modern Comforts in a Small Footprint
Despite its small size, this home includes all modern necessities. There’s a cozy area for watching TV or reading, a kitchen perfect for preparing meals or hosting a party, and various private spaces, whether outside or in the bedroom. The deck offers enough space for seating, dining, a game table, or even a mini garden.

Concept for Future Projects
While this project was never built, the design and features can easily be adapted for other projects, ensuring the concept lives on.
